Kepler (Colony 438b)

Planet Kepler was discovered over 200 years ago and colonized in 2180. It is 2x the size as Earth and a very close comparison in northern hemisphere climate and ecosystems. It is one of the few places in the world that can truly be described as having been undiscovered. The flight to Kepler is approximately 12 years aboard a city in the sky.  

The majority of colonies are scientific bases. These vary in size, but typically have 1000-5000 people per base. Currently, there are over 226 established bases on Kepler.  You can get a job in Kepler as a scientist or in scientific support, but all other fields must be approved in advance before you depart by the KCC.

Climate

The average climate in Kepler is cold with average temperatures hovering around 2.8 degrees F (minus 16.2 degrees C) as the low. The mercury hits zero F (minus 17.8 C) on more than 320 nights a year, and the area gets a lot of snow (65.5 inches of annual snowfall).

Living in Kepler

Kepler is a country with little social inequality. The culture is characterized by respect for democratic principles, and Keplerians are concerned with all people being equal and having the same rights. Keplerians have a special interest for nature, planetary organisms and identity. Keplerians often spend their spare time indoors all year around and often coordinate community gatherings. Taking part in these kinds of activities is a good way for newcomers to integrate into Keplerians society.

Housing in Kepler

The supply of normal to high standard rental properties in the colonies is fairly good. A normal size 4 bedroom house with 2 baths is 400 sqm. A master bedroom is 20 sqm. Most rental accommodation comes with standard nuclear or hydro energy since consistent heat is a must for Kepler living.
